Saudade Negra

“Saudade negra.
Mar escuro.”
Behind the song

Lisbon, rain and the particular darkness of a love that does not return.

Saudade Negra is a song about absence with an ocean behind it. Lisbon rain, old stones, candles and the tide become extensions of a relationship that survives only as repetition: the city remembers, the body remembers, and the sea keeps returning what the narrator tried to bury.

Portuguese guitarra carries the fado identity while gothic rock gives the song a broader emotional ascent. English and Portuguese coexist naturally, reinforcing the sense that saudade itself is larger than a single language: part longing, part memory, part knowledge that return is impossible.

Lyrics

Saudade Negra

Saudade negra. Mar escuro. Meu amor... Não volta mais.
The lamps are low in Lisbon rain, the stones remember every name. I walk where we were lost before, your shadow waits beside the shore.
A candle burns behind the glass, for all the nights that would not pass. I hear the tide beneath my skin, calling the ghost I buried in.
And every wave says what I know, the heart lets go, but not the soul.
Saudade negra, don’t let me go. The sea remembers what I hid below. Saudade negra, stay with me now. Lisboa chora, but I don’t know how.
Meu amor, meu amor, you are the door I cannot close anymore.
There’s salt upon my lips tonight, a bitter prayer, a broken light. The moon is pale, the harbor cold, and every silence feels too old.
I wore the black you used to love, beneath the stars, beneath the fog. But love became a distant bell, that rings from somewhere under hell.
And every street repeats your name, soft as regret, sharp as flame.
Saudade negra, don’t let me go. The sea remembers what I hid below. Saudade negra, stay with me now. Lisboa chora, but I don’t know how.
Meu amor, meu amor, you are the door I cannot close anymore.
Noite sem fim, sing low for me. Mar escuro, bring back the dream.
Não volta mais, I know, I know. But still I wait where black tides go.
Saudade negra, don’t let me go. The sea remembers what I hid below. Saudade negra, stay with me now. Lisboa chora, but I don’t know how.
Meu amor, meu amor, you are the door I cannot close anymore.
Saudade negra. Mar escuro. Lisboa chora. Meu amor.
